Did You Drink Enough Water Today?
“I have headache.” “Did you drink enough water today?”
“I can’t focus.” “Did you drink enough water today?”
“I’m hungry.” “Did you drink enough water today?”
“I am tired.” “Did you drink enough water today?”
“I am really congested.” “Did you drink enough water today?”
“My skin is dry.” “Did you drink enough water today?”
“I got a papercut.” “Did you drink enough water today?
Haha not really on the papercut. But my kids and husband usually hear me ask this question at least once a day. My husband jokes that if he came home with a broken leg, I would ask him if he had drank enough water that day. While I do ask the question a lot…it is for good reason. The book Quench is an incredible book about the necessity for hydrating properly. It was a great read! The book mentions how important it is for eating your water or using food to help the water last longer in your system.
The author, Dana Cohen explains how you can eat an apple and then drink some water to maximize hydration. The combination of the two causes a gel like substance in your body and it will increase hydration and allow your body to hang onto the water for longer. The book also mentions how adding chia seeds to your drink can also allow for the water to gel in your system and keep you hydrated longer AND with less trips to the bathroom.
Waking your body up with warm or hot lemon water and some quality salt in the mornings is a stellar way to give your cells a jump start for hydration…not to mention it will begin your digestive track and help with cleansing the liver.
Another tip is drinking 6-8oz of water before you eat a snack or a meal. It will not only keep you satisfied longer it will help with hydration.
Being hydrated will help SO many things, our cells NEED water to function properly and optimally. The body needs water to help flush toxins and detoxing is SO key to our health. We also need plenty of water to help fight off illness and help our immune system.
Hydrating properly could also help with weight loss because you will find a desire to eat less often because your body isn’t tricking you into thinking your hungry when really you are thirsty.
So next time you have a question…such as:
Why do I have a headache? Why am I so tired? Where is my energy today? Why did I get this papercut? (Just Kidding!)
Ask yourself…have I drank enough water today. And undoubtedly the answer will be no…so just go grab yourself your cup and drink up!
